Who Are We Doing It For?

My body is mine and mine alone.
Mine to love, mine to cherish.
Mine to protect with all my might, to learn to appreciate and embrace.

Sitting on a bench at the mall on a Sunday, watching women’s underwear ads rolling by, I couldn’t help but wonder: Who are we dressing ourselves for?
Our cleavage, our tight low-sitting pants —are they letting us move the way we want, feel as free to move through the world to enjoy and conquer our dreams?

I love to see girls and women feel empowered by the clothes they choose to wear, whatever they are. And at the same time, a question I try to cultivate more and more the older I get is, how did we get here? If film and the general media did not push so much to show bigger breasts, cleavage, thinness, curves, as signs of attractiveness and being desired, would we pursue them as much? Would so many women see them as their ultimate goal?

Isn’t it funny how the way we are presented as a product to the opposite sex in order to elicit a positive reaction on THEIR part, ends up being key in how WE want to look ourselves?

We are after all the ones to have these garments on our bodies —garments that as we all know can be very uncomfortable: They constrain, they push certain areas in order to show off other parts of us, the more “attractive” ones.

Who are we wearing them for?

I hope you’re happy with your own reasons —that’s the whole point of this exercise. May you always be content with your choices and keep your curiosity alive, wherever it may lead you.💛
